Wish List
- .Cat food. Dad's Gourmet Blend and Nine Lives Plus Care. We also appreciate premium foods (Science Diet, Purina One) but we realize most donors can't afford those. These are our four requested brands.
- Clean used towels and pillowcases. We can never have too many of these. No sheets or blankets please.
- Cat toys. We throw these out quickly (took a dunk in a water dish, got too furry, someone got a sniffle) so anytime you see toys on sale, please think of us.
- Plywood for cat shelters. Full sheets or large pieces only please. Also 2x4's and 1x1's
- Cat litter. Walmart Special Kitty Premium clay (non-scoopable). Not only is it the cheapest, it's the best. Really. We use about eight bags a week, so feel free to load up your car and make our cats very happy!
Volunteers
The Owl House is in the middle of nowhere in the center of Tioga County NY. Nonetheless, we have adopted cats living from France to Florida. It's easy to become a cat rescue. Just pause, look around, and within a day, you'll find a cat in need.
But we need a little help out here. Just a little help. Not hordes of folks. Just a few people who care. Those who already work with us know their contributions are life saving. Would you like to help? We need:
If you think you would like to volunteer, drop us a line via the contact box. We are looking for long-term volunteers -- folks who are looking for a quiet place to be a few times a month.
I'm afraid aren't set up for "new, drop-in unannounced" volunteers, but watch for our Coffee and Cats events, and feel free to stop by then. We would love to have you.
But we need a little help out here. Just a little help. Not hordes of folks. Just a few people who care. Those who already work with us know their contributions are life saving. Would you like to help? We need:
- A few trusted people to come comb the cats. You must be mature, have a car, a good reputation, and cat sense.
- Someone to tackle the big mess in our barn that ought to be a wood shop. Sweep, clean, design, and tell us what we need to buy. Right now its just an empty area with wood, tons of dust, and a few miscellaneous tools.
- Someone to visit now and then and take on a repair. You need to have the brains to see it, and the smarts to fix it. Our cats scratch things (wood needs to be sanded, repainted; posts need to be recarpeted), sneeze on things (windows need to be washed--this can never be done too often). We can always find you something to freshen up with paint. Bring a brush!
- A gang of people who would like to build a million cat shelters. Once the weather is warm, if an Eagle Scout or other group wanted to come here and use our barn to build 20-30 cat shelters that we can give to the public, you would be life-savers.
- On that note, we also need someone who can take our cat shelter design and draw up a plan that can be followed by others. We constantly have requests for our cat shelter plan, and we have not had time to draw it up. You would make a big difference if you could do this for us!
